National Science and Technology Medals Foundation

Nominate a Laureate

Each Medal has a distinguished and independent committee that evaluates all candidates nominated through an open, competitive solicitation process administered by the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

The President's Committee on the National Medal of Science includes 14 members, two of whom are ex-officio (the Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy and the President of the National Academy of Sciences). Their recommendations for the National Medal of Science are forwarded to the Office of the President of the United States.

The National Medal of Technology and Innovation Nomination Evaluation Committee consists of 8-12 members. Their recommendations are forward first to the Secretary of Commerce for his approval who in turn forwards the list of recommended candidates to the Office of the President.

The President of the United States has final approval on all candidates for the National Medal of Science and the National Medal of Technology and Innovation.

One element of the National Science & Technology Medals Foundation's mission is a commitment to encourage the nomination of qualified candidates through our newsletter, attendance at annual conventions, and now our redesigned website.
